POETRY
* Monologues and poems are a feature of this club.
They add humour, pathos, sincerity and are often thought provoking.
* The below-mentioned practitioners are an essential aspect of the atmosphere at this excellent folk club.
* Topics are varied and prior to reciting, short explanations of what to expect are usually given by each performer.
* Some of the regular performers are: -
ERIC CRAVEN
NB: Eric held a very successful book signing morning at Lingham's Booksellers in Heswall, Wirral in July 2024 and has since collaborated with Sue Farley of the trio Vocal Point. They have both produced an excellent CD of poetry and song entitled - " Remember When".
The songs and poems will take you back to childhood and help recall the games you got up to and the words and phrases used at that time, eg. 'off ground tick', tying a rope around the lamp post, making your own 'steerie' from items 'borrowed' from the local tip.
In March 2025, Eric and Sue, accompanied by the local duo 'Can't Remember,' also entertained at the Floral Pavilion Theatre foyer and cafe. The event was an exhibition of art which linked nicely with the poetry and songs of the aforementioned. At the time of writing this, Eric has written over 400 poems and he has an excellent website (see below), where you can read much of his work.
The CD can be purchased for £7 from Eric and Sue F.
You can find Eric and his poems at - https://www.ericscraven.com/about-eric
NB: The figure of 400 has now increased to over 500 I believe. His website is very well worth a 'look see'.
FURTHER TO THE ABOVE:
* Eric and Sue have recorded a further two CDs created in similar style to the aforementioned. Best way to purchase them is to attend at a Hungry Horse Music & Poetry night or visit Eric's website (see address above) or drop a line to Sue Farley - folkiesue@aol.com.
Other poets are also welcome to email their own works to Eric for publication on his website.
Other contributors on folk nights are: -
CAROL WARBURTON -- Wife of John Warburton - singer/songwriter
ALEX JENKINS -- Conveyer of monologues/singer & team member
PATRICK HAYES -- Poems & songs usually with an Irish lilt
